My professional career began in 1989 with a degree in Computer Science (minor in Psychology) at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg. Successful diploma and first employment as a research assistant in the OFFIS (Oldenburg Research and Development Institute for Computer Science Tools and Systems) were stages on the way to 2001 in the context of the Department of Programming Languages ​​and Systems (later Environmental Information Systems - Ltg. Prof. Dr. Michael Sonnenschein) at the Carl von Ossietzky University PhD (Dr. rer. Nat.).

This was followed by a postdoctoral research assistant in the Information Systems Department (Ltg Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans-Jürgen Appelrath) at the Carl von Ossietzky University. In this environment, in addition to the research in particular, tasks in the field of university teaching were for me in the center. The scientific results obtained during his time with Mr. Appelrath formed the core of my habilitation thesis. I was habilitated in April 2007 (Dr. rer. Nat. Habil.).

In September 2007 I left the Information Systems department to take on new tasks as Group Leader from October 2007 at the German Aerospace Center (DLR / TS), headed by Prof. Dr. Karsten Lemmer. Since 2009, I have been the head of department at DLR / TS, where today I am responsible for the orientation of research activities in the four application areas automotive, rail systems, intermodal mobility & public transport and traffic management with a market-oriented and strategic view. The implementation of projects is carried out in cooperation with seven fields of technology, which currently employ around 170 staff members from different scientific disciplines (for example from psychology, from various engineering disciplines and from computer science).

Through lectures at the University of Osnabrück and at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, I was always involved in university teaching between 2007 and 2014.

In May 2014, I was appointed professor at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg with effect from June 2014. There I head the department Intelligent Transport Systems. The professional structure of the professorship and the teaching contributions I represent are always consistent with my activities at DLR.
